Half of the PLN 1.5 billion (EUR 350 million) gathered by the subscriptions for public media would end up with local media outlets.

According to Minister Gliński, the draft law reforming the public media is almost complete.

The Minister said on Monday that the public media in Poland is to be transformed into “national cultural institutions”, and operate on similar principles as the National Opera and the Warsaw Philharmonic. They would function as “institutions, which are non-profit; not like a commercial entity”.

He added that the bill is “in its final phase, and is almost ready”.

Gliński said that the new subscription model which will replace the current payment system will raise more money for the public media.

“We would get up to raise PLN 1.5 billion for public media: television, radio, also news agencies," he explained. (rg/rk)
