The operator of Poland’s new LNG terminal hopes the facility will start receiving deliveries from sources other than Qatar and intended for customers in Central Europe in the second half of next year.

The Liquefied Natural Gas terminal in the Baltic port of Świnoujście, northern Poland, received its first shipment of fuel from Qatar on 11 December.

"We must remember that this is a European project,” Jan Chadam, head of state-owned Polskie LNG, which operates the terminal, told Poland’s PAP news agency.

“We want to make the infrastructure that has already been built and other projects being carried as part of the Polish transmission system available to our other partners in Europe - mainly from Central Europe, but also from Ukraine,” Chadam added.

The PLN 3.5 billion Świnoujscie terminal was built to allow Poland to diversify its gas supplies and reduce its dependence on Russia. (pk)
