Poland sees among the fastest rate of tourist growth in EU

The number of tourist-nights spent in Poland in 2015 grew by 6.9 percent y/y, well above an average of 3.2 percent in the 28 European Union member countries.

The largest growth in nights spent in tourist accommodation establishments were seen in Romania (+15.9 percent), Slovakia (+11.5 percent), the Czech Republic (+10.3 percent), Croatia (+7.9 percent), Slovenia (+7.5 percent) and Poland (+6.9 percent), according to Eurostat, the EU statistics office.
In contrast, the largest drops were recorded in Lithuania (-7.4 percent), followed at a distance by Latvia (-1.3 percent) and Bulgaria (-1.1 percent), Eurostat added.
In Poland, only 19 percent of tourists were non-EU residents (tied with Romania as the the lowest figure of the member countries), compared with a total of 46 percent for the whole of the EU. (rg/pk)
