That amounts to around EUR 3.7 bln and USD 4.2 bln.

Recent data gathered by the NBP, showed that most of the money earned by Poles abroad flows to Poland from Germany. Last year alone it was PLN 5.7 billion (EUR 1.3 bln).

Polish migrants in Great Britain have also sent a lot to their families. According to the Polish central bank, the amount was as high as PLN 4.5 billion (GBP 1 bln).

Close to PLN 1 billion came from the Netherlands (EUR 0.23 bln) and PLN 762 million (EUR 177 mln) from Ireland.

The estimated number of Polish economic migrants is over 2.3 million, many of who, travelled to other countries in the European Union following Poland’s accession in 2004. (tf/rg)
