One in three Poles says corruption widespread in business: report

One in three people in this country believe corruption is widespread in Polish business, according to a new global report by consulting firm EY.

But only 12 percent believe the Polish authorities are effective in fighting corruption, according to the report, entitled “Corporate misconduct - individual consequences”.

Meanwhile, 16 percent of Poles would be willing to offer a gift to a business partner in order to help their company in a crisis, 14 percent would be ready to offer some form of entertainment, and eight percent would offer cash.

Mariusz Witalis from EY said that Poland fared slightly better in the study than the world average.

Thirty-nine percent of all respondents said they believed bribery/corrupt practices happened widely in business in their countries.

The study was conducted in 62 countries, with more than 2,800 respondents taking part. (pk)
