Polish MPs on Friday voted through changes to the labour code that are expected to make it easier for inspectors to clamp down on illegal employment.

Under the new rules drawn up by the government, Polish employees will need to have a written job contract, or a document confirming the terms of employment, before they start work.
At present, employers have until the end of the first day to give a new worker a contract.
Employers often claim during checks by labour inspectors that workers employed illegally and without a contract are on their first day in the job.
The amendments will now be debated by the upper house of parliament. (pk)
