Dubbed the "Women's Davos", the event is an international business forum for women working in a range of sectors, ranging from business, through politics to civil society.

Around 1,000 women from 74 countries across the globe will take part in the three-day event, hosted by Poland for the first time.

"The idea is to show what power we can unleash, the great potential women have, and the changes they spark across the globe," said Dorota Warakomska, from the Women's Congress, which is jointly organizing the summit in Warsaw.

This year's points of discussion include innovation, modern technology and shaping the economy in the digital age.

The event will be attended by Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydło, Deputy Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and Warsaw Mayor Hanna Gronkiewicz-Waltz.

Each year, the international summit brings together business leaders, non-governmental organisations, political figures and women in media to share their knowledge and experience.

Initiated by the Washington D.C.-based Globe Women organization, the Warsaw summit is the first such event in Central and Eastern Europe.

Previous gatherings were held in countries including Greece, Malaysia, China and Brazil. (aba/pk)
