More than 85 percent of respondents said that taxes in Poland are too high in relation to what the state provides for its citizens.

The vast majority of Poles (78 percent) complain at what they consider an overcomplicated tax system.

Few, however, challenge the need to pay taxes, as 92 percent believe they are necessary to finance important social objectives and needs.

An overwhelming majority of respondents considered tax evasion a form of stealing from fellow citizens, and most condemned VAT and benefit fraud, alongside establishing offshore accounts in tax havens by public figures.

The survey was run on a sample of 1,100 adults on 5-12 May. (aba/pk)
