Moscow is contemplating an ease on its sanctions on EU food products, prompted by the need for baby food ingredients, daily “Rossiskaya Gazeta” reports.

A draft disposition on a partial lifting of the embargo, exclusively centered on the components of baby food, has been prepared by Russia’s Agriculture Ministry, the daily writes.

The step was taken in response to a shortage of high quality goods used in manufacturing food products for the youngest consumers on the Russian market, as local producers fail to meet the required standards, the daily reports.

Under the ministry’s document, Moscow would allow for the import of 70 tons of frozen meat, such as veal, beef and poultry, and 662 tons of chopped vegetables into the country.

European exporters may apply with their offers until 15 October, the paper writes.

Russia first imposed an embargo on food products from EU countries, including Poland, in August 2014. The move was taken in the wake of the bloc’s restrictions introduced against Russia after the country’s takeover of Crimea that year. (aba)
