Train companies owed PLN 200 mln in unpaid fines

Polish train companies are owed PLN 209 (EUR 49) million by people who were caught travelling without a ticket and failed to pay the fines.

The data gathered by the Economic Information Bureau (KRD) shows that the figure increased by six percent over the previous year, with 246,000 fines still unpaid.

“Although this is not a huge increase, it is evidence that some passengers still have not established a habit of paying their tickets. For every person who has not paid their fines, an average of two fines are handed out. For some people, this is a one-off event, while some others regularly ride the trains without a ticket,” said Adam Łącki, the head of the KRD. (rg)
