Polish tax system should be more progressive: Deputy PM

Deputy Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has said he thinks Poland's tax system needs to be made more progressive.

“For high earners, there should not be a tax-free bracket,” Morawiecki, who also acts as Finance and Development Minister, told the PAP news agency.
He believes that Poland's tax system needs to be tweaked in order to make it more progressive.
Asked whether the government is considering removing the 19-percent personal income tax for entrepreneurs, Morawiecki said: “We are not working on such an option to remove taxes for entrepreneurs”.
“An entrepreneur is someone who takes the risk to start a business. This is something completely different than working eight hours [in an office], so I would not want entrepreneurs to be worried that we will tax them as much as people who work a full-time job.”
According to the PAIiIZ agency, the taxable amount in Poland is 18 percent for people earning under PLN 85,528 (EUR 19,286), minus a tax-reducing amount of PLN 556.02.
People who earn above that figure, pay PLN 14,839 (EUR 3346), plus an additional 32 percent of the surplus over PLN 85,528. (rg/pk)
