No decision on flat tax: Polish PM

The government has not taken a decision to introduce changes to Poland’s taxation system, Polish Prime Minister Beata Szydło said on Thursday.

However, a decision to continue working on reforms, which would introduce a flat tax, would be made by the end of December, Szydło said.
“A the moment there is no taxation system reform,” Szydło said, adding: “Definitive information about what comes next, in terms of a flat tax, will be presented by the end of the year.”
She said a flat tax would only be introduced if “it proves to be simple, fair and won’t hit businesses” and simultaneously “closes the gap between high income earners, who pay relatively low tax, and those who don’t earn much.”
On Wednesday, the Chairman of the Permanent Committee of the Council of Ministers, Henryk Kowalczyk, said the new tax would be introduced, according to the Gazeta Polska weekly.
“The government is working on a comprehensive taxation system, which will be implemented in the form of a flat tax as of 2018,” the weekly quoted Kowalczyk as saying. (vb/pk)
