The national carrier launched 23 new destinations in 2016, including connections to Tokyo and Seoul.

“2016 is not over yet, and [LOT] has already set a record in its 87-year history, carrying 5,000,000 passengers who chose us in the first 11 months of the year,” LOT spokesman Adrian Kubicki was quoted as saying by the PAP news agency.

LOT forecasts that by the end of 2016, the number of passengers will be 5.5 million passengers. Last year, the figure was four million.

Founded in 1929, LOT is one of the world's oldest airlines. (rg/pk)
