Local authorities have said they expect the centre, which is to be opened in June, to create hundreds of jobs.

The centre is to handle financial and administrative tasks for the Austria-based company.

Marcel Angst from Swarovski said the firm had chosen Gdańsk because of the qualified staff available locally, the infrastructure in the area and the opportunity to work with the local authorities.

Mieczysław Struk, the head of the Pomerania regional assembly in northern Poland, said: "This is another important global company to carry out services in Gdańsk."

He added that he hopes hundreds of "high-end" jobs will be created for well-qualified employees.
