Joblessness in January was 0.3 percentage points higher than in December but 1.6 percentage points lower than in January 2016.
Earlier this month, the Family, Labour and Social Policy Ministry said unemployment rose to 8.7 percent in January from 8.3 percent in December.
Deputy minister Stanisław Szwed stressed at the time that the figures were not a surprise, adding: “The most difficult months are always January and February - it’s winter, many so-called seasonal jobs are not active.”
Szwed said that February could see a further rise in unemployment, but added the ministry expected joblessness to fall to 8 percent or less at the end of the year.
