Paweł Borys, president of the PFR’s management board, told a conference on Monday that the report by the fund put forward an ambitious thesis that "in 15 years Central Europe could become a European centre of innovation".

Borys said that the Visegrad Group countries -- Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia -- had to undergo a double transition: from a post-communist economy to a market economy, and to an economy based on knowledge and new technologies.

The report by the Polish Development Fund was drawn up for a meeting of political and business leaders from the Visegrad Group countries during an international Innovators Summit being held in Warsaw on Monday and Tuesday.

Leaders of Visegrad Group countries will be special guests at the congress and will on Tuesday sign a “Warsaw declaration” on innovation in the region.
