"This is a congress that shows a different face of Poland, it shows that we are one of the most dynamically developing countries in Europe,” Gowin told Polish Radio.

The leaders of Visegrad Group countries -- Poland, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia -- took part in an international Central Eastern Europe Innovators Summit in Warsaw on Tuesday.

"I’m wondering if an event related to... issues such as innovation, ties between science and the economy, has ever attracted so many important politicians, including several prime ministers," Gowin said.

He noted that a new law on innovation came into force in Poland in January. He said this creates incentives for team-ups between scientists and entrepreneurs.

Leaders of Visegrad Group countries were special guests at the Innovators Summit and on Tuesday signed a “Warsaw declaration” on innovation in the region.

The declaration pledged help for innovative companies and start-ups, and measures to boost competitiveness in the Visegrad Group countries.

They also pledged to strengthen collaboration in research, technology, innovation and digitization, in particular through the use of EU funds.
