According to ForeignPolicy.com, the US Agency for International Development (USAID), which organises disaster and poverty relief, plans to cut down on spending, and cut Poland off altogether, onet.pl reported.

Poland currently receives some USD 3 million (PLN 11.6 million) annually under USAID, onet.pl said.

“Poland is monitoring the process and remains in touch with representatives of the US State Department and Congress,” Poland's foreign ministry's press office told the onet.pl website.

According to ForeignPolicy.com, USAID funds will be channelled into national security as the White House plans a series of budget cuts, onet.pl said.

But the Polish website said the White House's 2018 budget plans have to get the green light from Congress to go ahead.

Meanwhile, ForeignPolicy.com said that USAID's closure or reorganisation could increase the polarisation of the international community, onet.pl said. (vb)
