European Commission spokeswoman Vanessa Mock told reporters the decision was taken after Poland implemented the EU’s Bank Recovery and Resolution directive (BRRD).

The directive was put in place to create a safer financial sector in the wake of the international financial crisis.

Apart from Poland, the European Commission in 2015 took the Czech Republic, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Romania and Sweden to the Court of Justice.

The deadline for transposing the EU banking rules into national law was December 2014.
