Finance Minister: It's not in Poland's interests to adopt euro

It is not in Poland's interest to be in the eurozone, and Warsaw does not want to lose the possibility of running an independent monetary policy, Finance Minister Mateusz Morawiecki has said.

Morawiecki told the private Polsat broadcaster on Wednesday that Poland and the eurozone are not following a similar monetary policy at the moment.
Poland has a “different business cycle”, a “different production structure” as well as “other competitive advantages”, Morawiecki, who is also Poland's deputy Prime Minister, said.
He added that “today we see no reason to lose a basic instrument” by joining the eurozone, namely “conducting an independent monetary policy”, which is possible thanks to Poland having its own currency.
Only two other countries which joined the EU together with Poland in 2004 still use their national currencies: the Czech Republic and Hungary. (rg/pk)
