The so-called Multilateral Instrument (MLI) offers tools to close gaps in existing international tax rules which allow corporate profits to “disappear” or be artificially shifted to tax havens.

Polish Finance Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said the MLI would save Poland from renegotiating dozens of bilateral double taxation deals.

He also said it “will limit the fake transfer of profits abroad. Poland will have more tools in the fight against tax cheats.”

“The agreement shows that the most important countries of the world have finally understood how much damage is caused by a few getting rich at society’s expense,” he added. (vb/rg)
