The G550 Gulfstream plane has been christened Prince Józef Poniatowski, and is the first of two planes which were purchased by the Polish government to shuttle top officials around the globe. Prince Poniatowski (1763-1813) was a Polish leader, hero and army general.

The second plane, which will land in Poland in July, will be named after Casimir Pułaski – a military hero of both Poland and the US who lived between 1745 and 1779.

The planes will be capable of flying over 5,000 kilometres with 14 passengers and baggage on board, which means the planes will be able to fly directly between Warsaw and New York’s JFK airport, the IAR news agency has said. (rg/pk)
