Retailer launches tourism service

German supermarket chain Lidl has branched into the tourism sector, launching mainly domestic excursions for customers as of Tuesday, the Gazeta Wyborcza daily has reported.

The holidays will include sporting trips and culinary vacations, the daily said.

According to the paper, the cheapest option was a PLN 309 (EUR 72) weekend stay at a four-star hotel in Poland's Zakopane mountain resort, while the most expensive was a trip to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro, worth PLN 10,999.

The retailer says it wants to promote hotels, tourist sites, spas and restaurants. (vb/pk)
