Profits down for Polish banks, but surge in third quarter

The net profits of Poland’s banking sector fell 7.1% year on year between January and September to PLN 10.55 billion.

The figures were released on Tuesday by the National Bank of Poland, the country’s central bank.
The PAP news agency reported, however, that in the third quarter the sector’s profits hit PLN 3.84 billion, up a hefty 24.9% on the same period last year.
In September, net profits amounted to PLN 1.2 billion.
Banks’ operating costs in the first three quarters increased 3.4% to PLN 24.56 billion.
