Speaking at the launch of the 590 Congress, a major business, science and policy forum, Duda said that the promotion and development of Polish business was one of the objectives of his presidency.

The congress, billed by its organisers as the most important Polish business event of the year, is being held in Rzeszów, southeastern Poland, on Thursday and Friday.

Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Development and Finance Minister Mateusz Morawiecki said that one of his aims was to “maintain social cohesion.”

Reducing inequality

“That means reducing the level of inequality and at the same time providing development opportunities for the broadest possible social groups," said Morawiecki.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Beata Szydło said at the congress that she encouraged entrepreneurs to invest in Poland.

"We want you to open your businesses here... but remember, we want to be your partners and we are your partners. We are not a country where you can just do good business and just leave."

The organizers expect about 3,000 participants at the congress.

They will discuss energy, investment in infrastructure, the challenges facing businesses, taxes, financial innovation and startups.

The name of the congress comes from the first three digits of an international retail bar code signifying that a product comes from Poland.

Eighteen companies have been shortlisted for the Polish President's Business Award, which will be handed to winners at the congress.
