Awards were handed out in six categories: Small and Small and Medium-sized Business Leader, National Success, International Success, Responsible Business, Start-up.pl, and Research and Development.

Duda said that the distinctions aimed to promote Polish entrepreneurship, innovation and creativity by awarding companies which contribute to Polish economic growth, promote the country abroad and are a role model for other businesses.

Dramiński SA, an electronics manufacturer, won the Small and Medium-Sized Business Leader category, while dairy cooperative Mlekovita, the largest in Central and Eastern Europe, won in the “Responsible Business” category.

State-owned electric vehicle manufacturer Melex won in the International Success category and Wuzetem, a fuel injection system producer which sells 65 percent of its products to the US and the rest to about 50 other countries, took out the National Success category.

The Start-up.pl category was won by XTPL, which is commercialising technology to make ultra-thin conductive metallic lines.

A team of researchers from the University of Warsaw's Physics Faculty and the New Technology Centre won the Research and Development category.

An Individual Business Award was handed to the founder of Celon Pharma, Maciej Wieczorek.

A shortlist of 18 companies was whittled down from 142 applications for the awards, which were handed out for the 15th time.

Congress 590, under the auspices of the president, is an annual event named after the first three numbers in barcodes which mean a product is of Polish origin. (vb/pk)
