Around 164,000 Poles earn a gross income of PLN 20,000 (EUR 4,700) or more per month, according to a study by advisory company KPMG.

Most of the country's top earners live in the central Mazowieckie province, where 11,000 of them make more than PLN 50,000 a month. Their combined income exceeded PLN 15 billion in 2016.

Some 57,000 Poles boasted assets worth over USD 1 millon. The amount grew by 18 percent in total over the past year, marking the highest growth rate in Europe.

While the number of dollar millionaires in Poland rose by 16,000 since last year, the overall figure is still modest compared to other European countries. For example, Spain has 428,000 dollar millionaires.

A total of 203 Polish residents had assets worth over USD 100 million last year. (aba/gs)
