This includes funds spent by both private citizens and public authorities preparing to stage fireworks displays across the country, the Rzeczpospolita daily reported.

Most of the fireworks and firecrackers available in Polish stores come from China, and some of them carry price tags of under PLN 10 (EUR 2.40, USD 2.90), the paper said.

Despite campaigns encouraging people to stop using fireworks on New Year's Eve, the market for “pyrotechnic products” in Poland has grown by about 10 percent over the past two years, according to experts cited by Rzeczpospolita.
