Poles taking out more loans: report

In 2017, Poles took out some 9 million loans totalling PLN 133.2 billion (EUR 32 bn), which is 5.5 percent more than in the previous year, the Credit Information Bureau (BIK) reports.

Mortgage loans achieved the highest growth rate in terms of value, at 11.1 percent compared to 2016. The value of overdraft limits rose by 6.4 percent and the value of consumer credit increased by 3.5 percent. Credit cards saw the lowest growth rate, standing at 0.8 percent.
Meanwhile, in December 2017, the value of money borrowed by consumers in the form of credit cards fell by 9 percent year-on-year, BIK said.
The amount borrowed by home buyers in December decreased by 6 percent, while the value of consumer credit and overdraft limits declined by 3.6 percent and 1.7 percent respectively. (aba/gs)
