Firm set up by ex interior minister earned millions from PKN Orlen: report

A company set up by former Interior Minister Bartłomiej Sienkiewicz earned over PLN 4 million (EUR 957,000, USD 1.2 m) for work carried out for Poland's largest refiner, PKN Orlen, from 2013 to January this year, a conservative Polish daily has reported.
Gazeta Polska Codziennie said it is not known whether PKN Orlen’s new CEO will want to continue using the services of the company founded by Sienkiewicz, Salvor i Wspólnicy (Salvor and Partners).
Daniel Obajtek has been appointed CEO of PKN Orlen after the supervisory board of the refiner dismissed former CEO Wojciech Jasiński and two other management board members last Monday.
Obajtek was previously CEO of Polish energy company Energa.
Reform plan
Gazeta Polska Codziennie reported that 44-year-old Obajtek is to implement a reform plan which has already been drawn up and which aims, among other things, to end some long-standing deals.
“This is not only a revolution in terms of staffing -- it is also about terminating contracts that are unfavourable and which give rise to doubt. For many that will mean the loss of hefty profits,” Gazeta Polska Codziennie said.
Salvor was established in 2009 by Sienkiewicz, an interior minister during the previous government of the Civic Platform (PO) and the Polish People’s Party (PSL). Sienkiewicz’s duties included overseeing the work of Poland’s secret services and he was a man trusted by former Prime Minister Donald Tusk, the daily reported.
Gazeta Polska Codziennie added that Sienkiewicz formally shed his shares in the company just before taking office in February 2013.
Millions in earnings
The daily said that Salvor earned over PLN 4 million from February 1, 2013 to January 31, 2018 from work for PKN Orlen.
In addition to services for which it received a monthly sum of PLN 50,000, Salvor also carried out work such as drawing up a list of risks for investors in the shale gas sector, according to Gazeta Polska Codziennie.
A contract was signed when PKN Orlen was headed by Jacek Krawiec, another trusted Tusk man, the daily added.
Salvor continued to receive money from PKN Orlen when Sienkiewicz was still interior minister, Gazeta Polska Codziennie added.
