Sunday trading law will not hurt Polish labour market: minister

Poland’s labour minister has said that a new law limiting Sunday trading will not cause a spike in unemployment.

Most Polish stores will be closed on March 11 as new rules come into force.
"We absolutely do not expect an increase in unemployment," said Family, Labour and Social Policy Elżbieta Rafalska.
She added that Poland had a shortage of employees in many sectors of the economy.
Poland will see a gradual ban on Sunday shopping introduced for most retail outlets under a plan signed into law by the country’s president last month.
Under the new regulations, trading will be banned on two Sundays a month from March.
The ban will be stepped up to three Sundays a month in 2019, while in 2020 trading will be prohibited except on seven Sundays a year.
The ban will not apply to outlets such as online stores, fuel stations, airports, bakeries, pharmacies and flower shops.
