“Foreigners are employed to do jobs Poles don’t want,” said Katarzyna Lorenc, a job market expert with the Business Center Club (BCC).

Seven percent of Poles, however, perceive Ukrainians as a threat. This group predominantly comprises Poles aged between 18 and 22.

Foreigners taking up employment in Poland often have low salary expectations, which may leave Polish workers at a disadvantage, website Money.pl reported.

Meanwhile, a study carried out by the Business Center Club and the International Organisation for Migration found that no more than 18.2 percent of Polish employers opted for foreign workers because they were cheaper than the domestic workforce.

All the respondents in the survey said they took on workers from other countries due to a shortage of qualified labour in Poland. (aba/pk)
