Retail sales in current prices were up 17.8 percent on February.

Łukasz Bugaj, an analyst with the BOŚ brokerage, said that sales were boosted by Easter, which this year fell in March.

Last month saw a law limiting Sunday trading come into force. Bugaj said, however, that it was too early to assess the impact of the new restrictions on sales.

He added that consumption throughout the first quarter of the year remained high, contributing to economic growth.
