The meeting last week was attended by Polish deputy prime minister Jarosław Gowin and deputy digitisation minister Karol Okoński, alongside academics and researchers.

Impact Roundtable AI marked the beginning of a debate on the future of artificial intelligence between the government, entrepreneurs and academics. The attendees discussed prospective policies and conditions for ensuring dynamic growth of AI in Poland.

“We need modern solutions in healthcare, public administration and education, and we need solutions to boost security in cyberspace,” Gowin said after the talks.

The first blueprints for a strategy aimed at developing AI will be announced soon, Okoński said. “This strategy must incorporate the demands and expectations of those who will participate in the creation of an entire system of artificial intelligence,” he added.

Prof. Maciej Chorowski, head of the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR), said: "There is a risk that without effective collaboration between various entities Poland will not be among the most developed and technologically advanced countries.”

The debate was another in a series of roundtable talks held in the run-up to an upcoming innovation conference in southern Poland. The Impact’18 conference, which will be held in the city of Kraków in June, is expected to bring together forerunners in innovation to discuss digital trends and solutions. One of the highlights of the event is a meeting with a humanoid robot named Sophia, developed by Hong Kong-based Hanson Robotics.
