Quick loans popular in Poland: report

Poles taking out quick loans pay interest and fees of at least PLN 3 billion (EUR 700 million, USD 820 million) a year, according to conservative estimates, the Dziennik Gazeta Prawna daily reported.

Last year, seven major quick-loan sector companies made PLN 2.4 billion, according to the daily. The market is, however, much larger, the paper said.
Poland has nearly 400 loan companies, according to the daily, which cited the country's Financial Supervision Authority (KNF).
The Provident company, which has the largest share in the non-bank loan market, has a loan portfolio reaching PLN 1.7 billion, Dziennik Gazeta Prawna reported.
