A possible takeover of Poland’s national carrier LOT by a new state-controlled aviation sector company, Polska Grupa Lotnicza, was on Thursday given the green light by the country’s consumer watchdog.

Poland's Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) also approved the possible takeover by Polska Grupa Lotnicza, or "Polish air group", of two other companies, Aircraft Maintenance Services and LS Airport Services.

The Polish group was set up in January by Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki to consolidate some of the companies on the country’s aviation market.

The listed group has a start-up capital of PLN 1.2 billion and is expected to be an umbrella organisation that will set a joint strategy for the domestic civil aviation sector.
