The deliveries by PGNiG and Energy Resources of Ukraine are due to be made from October this year to May 1, 2019, Polish state news agency PAP reported.

PGNiG vice president Maciej Woźniak said the Polish company has been building its brand on the Ukrainian energy market since 2016.

He noted that PGNiG offers customers gas from various sources, including liquefied natural gas (LNG) from Qatar and the United States, gas from European countries, and gas it extracts on its own in Poland.

Poland’s president said last month that his country aims to become an energy hub in Central and Eastern Europe.

Andrzej Duda said that while Poland heavily relies on coal “as the key engine and guarantor” of its energy security, it has begun importing large quantities of LNG via a terminal in its north-western city of Świnoujście, and it is also building a gas pipeline—called the Baltic Pipe—to bring gas from Norway.
