The reserves hold around 2 billion cubic metres of methane-rich gas, Poland’s PAP news agency has reported.

Orlen CEO Daniel Obajtek said the gas is "top quality," with more than 98 percent methane content.

Extraction is expected to commence in around two years and may continue for 10 to 15 years.

Obajtek added that further exploration would take place in the vicinity.

Orlen has recently discovered another deposit holding around 1 billion cubic metres of nitrogen-rich gas near the north-central city of Bydgoszcz, PAP said.

Obajtek said the company would “explore new deposits in the country with increased frequency and greater determination.”

Orlen has earmarked PLN 200 million (EUR 46.58 mln, USD 53.87 mln) for these efforts, PAP reported.
