Speaking at a space industry conference in Warsaw, Andrzej Duda said that space exploration was about “a technology race” and that Poland was ready to join the race as it strove to become more innovative, Poland’s PAP news agency reported.

Duda said that Polish space industry companies were shooting for 3 percent of the global market amid intense international competition, according to the PAP news agency.

Poland aims to shell out millions to develop its own satellite systems and space technology under a programme unveiled by a government agency in December.

The first Polish commercial satellite will be launched into space next year, the PAP news agency reported earlier this month.

A government minister said in May that Poland had more than 300 companies active in its space technology sector, 10 times as many as five years earlier.
