Poles among top spenders on alcohol in EU: Eurostat

Poles were among the European Union’s biggest spenders on alcoholic beverages in 2017, a report has found.

Data released by Eurostat on Tuesday shows that Polish households earmarked 3.5 percent of their total consumption expenditure for alcohol last year on average.
The statistics do not include alcohol bought in restaurants and hotels.
Households in the three Baltic states, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, set aside the highest share of their household expenditure for alcoholic beverages, at 5.6 percent, 5.2 percent and 4 percent respectively, Eurostat said.
The lowest average spending on alcohol was recorded in Spain, at 0.8 percent, followed by Greece and Italy, each with 0.9 percent.
Households in the EU spent a total of EUR 130 billion on alcohol in 2017. The amount is equivalent to 0.9 percent of the EU’s GDP.
