Wizz Air to expand in Poland: report

According to the paper, the carrier has already doubled the number over the last four years, becoming the third biggest in Poland.

The daily quoted Wizz Air's head Jozsef Varadi as saying that within the next five years, the company aims to become the biggest carrier operating in Poland, expecting almost 11 million passengers just in 2019.

Varadi also told the daily that despite a ban on flight operations at the Warsaw's Chopin airport between 11:30pm and 5:30am, the cooperation with the airport authorities is satisfying.

However, the paper quoted Varadi as saying that if future development will be limited by the airport's capacity, the carrier will consider moving on to other airports near Warsaw. The Chopin Airport is the largest in Poland. Last year it was used by 15.8 million passengers.

Poland’s president in early June greenlighted an ambitious plan to build a large new airport in the centre of the country, between the capital Warsaw and the central city of Łódź.

It is expected to handle up to 100 million passengers a year and be one of the largest hub airports in Europe after it is completed in 2027.

Wizzair has already invested over 3 billion US dollars in Poland, operating 27 airplanes on 160 routes to 28 countries. It also employs over 1 thousand Poles.
