Jerzy Kwieciński said this would mean Poland had one of the highest rates of GDP growth in Europe in the first three months of this year.

The Polish economy expanded 4.9 percent in the final quarter of 2018.

Kwieciński added that he expected economic growth for the whole of 2019 to be close to the reading for the first three months.

Poland’s Central Statistical Office (GUS) is expected to issue a flash estimate of first-quarter growth on May 15.

The European Commission on Tuesday raised its forecasts for Polish GDP growth this year and next.

The Commission, the executive arm of the European Union, said it expected the Polish economy to expand 4.2 percent in 2019, rather than the 3.5 percent it predicted in February.
