More firms registered in Poland in Q1, bankruptcies also up

Some 95,300 new businesses were registered in Poland in the first quarter of this year, 4.3 percent up on the same period in 2018, the Central Statistical Office has said.

Meanwhile, 155 businesses went bankrupt in the first quarter, an increase of 11.5 percent year on year, according to the state-run statistics office.
It reported that more companies were registered in sectors including construction, an increase of 20.7 percent, and accommodation and catering, up 13.5 percent year on year.
The largest increase in the number of bankruptcies was seen in businesses dealing in motor vehicles and car repairs—rising to 51 from 38 in the first quarter of last year.
