Almost three million Poles now pay to use health clubs, which makes Poland’s fitness services market one of the fastest growing in Europe, a recent report has found.

The Deloitte report found that in 2014, 2.7 million Poles paid to use one of the 2,500 fitness club currently active in Poland, which had a combined revenue of PLN 3.6 billion (EUR 900 million) that year.

Marcin Diakonowicz from Deloitte, one of the report’s authors, commented that “the main finding concerning Poland is that the Polish [fitness services] market is rising very dynamically.”

The report anticipated that the Polish fitness market will undergo significant transformation in the near future as it follows Western Europe.

Diakonowicz explained that, “The Polish market is very specific. There are very many small health clubs. In the rest of Europe the market is more consolidated. There are large corporate players there.”

Apart from impending consolidation of the fitness market, the report also argued that Poland’s fitness clubs will increasingly offer services aimed at older adults in future, a consequence of Poland’s demographic changes.

According to Robert Kamiński, CEO of the Polish Fitness Association of Employers, the average price of gym membership in Poland has fallen over the last three years from PLN 140 (EUR 35) to PLN 120 (EUR 30). (sl/rg)
