Leading names within Civic Platform have been at odds over whether internal elections should be held regarding outgoing prime minister Ewa Kopacz's continued leadership of the party.

“If these elections go ahead now, I am ready to ask my colleagues for their trust, and run for the leadership of the party,” Schetyna told public broadcaster TVP.

Schetyna argue that it is time to return to the drawing board and “build the structure” of the party.

The Civic Platform party had led a coalition government with the agrarian Polish People's Party since 2007, lasting two terms.

According to the official results of Sunday's general election, a socially conservative coalition led by the Law and Justice party triumphed with 37.58 percent of the vote. Civic Platform managed 24.09 percent. (nh/rk)
