The "infringement procedure" was launched by the EC on Saturday following the publication of a new Polish law on the organization of ordinary courts. According to the commission, the legislation breaches EU law.

In an interview for the PAP news agency, Szymański said that the new law contained "procedural guarantees and legal remedies," adding that the ministry views the EC’s decision as "unjustified."

"It also needs to be remembered that social policy and the organization of the judiciary are the competence of member states", the minister added.

Representatives of opposition parties Civic Platform (PO), Nowoczesna (Modern) and the Polish People's Party (PSL) told PAP that they expected the government to resume the dialogue with the commission.

According to spokesman for Kukiz' 15 Jakub Kulesza, the reform of the judiciary is "a very important matter, but it is entirely related to [Polish] internal affairs".
