He was speaking after meeting Vietnam’s President Tran Dai Quang, who he said had assured him “of the openness of the Vietnamese authorities and the Vietnamese market to Polish goods and Polish investment."

According to Duda, Tran Dai Quang confirmed Vietnam was ready to create friendly conditions for Polish companies interested in doing business and investing in the southeast Asian country, especially in sectors where Poland “has a competitive advantage,” such as mining, food processing, pharmaceuticals and environmental protection.

Earlier, in the presence of both leaders, Polish and Vietnamese officials signed a number of intergovernmental agreements, including one on cooperation in higher education that Duda said is designed to enable more Vietnamese students to study in Poland and also study Polish at Hanoi University.

Polish and Vietnamese government officials also signed a financial deal whereby Poland will provide Vietnam with a EUR 250 million loan for the purchase of Polish goods.

In addition, Polish biotechnology company Adamed Holding signed a USD 50 million investment agreement with Vietnam’s Dat Vi Phu Pharmaceutical JSC under which it acquired a controlling stake in the Vietnamese company.

The transaction marks the largest Polish direct investment in Vietnam, officials said.

Duda voiced hope that bilateral deals would encourage business and academic contacts between the two countries.

During his four-day visit to Vietnam aiming to boost bilateral trade, Duda was also due to meet Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

Duda was scheduled to attend a ceremony on Thursday during which the Polish Investment and Trade Agency (PAIH) will officially open an office in Ho Chi Minh City.

Duda has brought with him to Vietnam a group of 65 Polish entrepreneurs to take part in a bilateral economic forum in Ho Chi Minh City.
