Under the planned changes accepted on Tuesday, public universities are set to receive an additional PLN 3 billion in Treasury bonds, while funding for higher education next year will be increased by PLN 700 million (EUR 165m, USD 203m).
Jarosław Gowin, deputy prime minister and minister of science and higher education, said that the reforms would increase the autonomy of universities, open up career paths for young scientists, and make Polish universities more international.
The science ministry wants the new rules to enter into force on October 1.
