“I lacked speed. I was terribly, terribly slow,” Wach told Poland's Przeglad Sportowy daily on Monday.

“To be a true champion, everything has to be a hundred percent,” he added.

Ukrainian star Klitschko won on unanimous points in the Hamburg showdown, successfully defending his IBF, WBA and WBO titles, and shattering Wach's streak of 27 consecutive wins.

Nevertheless, Klitschko paid his adversary a sporting compliment.

“It was a very tough fight and Mariusz had to take a lot of punches,” he told reporters after stepping out of the ring.

"I thought he would go down but he fought on.”

Meanwhile, Wach is in philosophical mood.

“Sometimes you've got to lose to become a better boxer,” he said.

“I'm going to work hard on what I was lacking,” he concluded. (nh)
