Speaking at a press conference in Warsaw on Thursday, Kubica outlined his plans for the season, and touched on his hopes for a return to Formula 1 racing, after a severe accident jeopardised his career in February 2011.

Joined by pilot Maciej Baran, Kubica confirmed that the pair are set to start in four rounds of the European Rally Championship (ERC) in 2013, including the Rally of Poland in September, and seven of World Championship events (WRC).

He will drive a Citroen DS3 Regional Rally Car in all races, sponsored by Lotos, according a new deal signed yesterday.

“I'm going to spend this season learning,” he quipped, as cited by the Polish Press Agency (PAP).

"I have no specific goals other than to learn, learn, learn," he said.

Next week, the pair will already be in action in the ERC Canary Islands Rally.

At the moment, the 28-year-old's right hand has still not recovered to a level at which he could perform in Formula 1 racing.

“I'd give anything to return to Formula 1, but at the moment it's not possible,” Kubica acknowledged.

“I can see a light at the end of the tunnel. Perhaps [it will be possible] in a year or two,” he reflected.

However, the Krakow-born racer assured fans that he is going to give “100 percent” to rally-driving.

“This is the beginning of a new stage in my life,” he said. (nh)
